This year, the WRA National and Whippet Derby are being held under the combined direction of SOL & SOMOS (plus a few of their friends).

This year, we travel back to the historical town of Camden, SC but will be running at the famed Springdale Race Course.

We are fortunate this year to be racing at the Springdale Racing Course.

Springdale Race Course is located on the outskirts of Camden. Springdale currently hosts two of the most important steeplechases on the yearly calendar : the popular Carolina Cup in April and the prestigious Colonial Cup in the November. This year, our whippets are going to be the 3rd event at this prestigious racing course! (Start washing those racing jackets!)

The racing course consists of 600 acres of well maintained lands deeded to the state of South Carolina in 1983. This location promises to be a prime field for our fast little canines. Be there, or miss out! [now, that's a threat for you!]

Racing will be a 200 yard straight (4 programs, drag lure)on Saturday under the racing rules of WRA with a NOTRA derby (300 yards, 4 whippets, 4 programs) held the following day. Bruce Irvine will be lure operator on Saturday for the WRA National with Matt Kinch operating the lure Sunday for the NOTRA Derby.

Seniors and Legends will be offered on Saturday (WRA) only . Per the WRA Rule Book: 2.7.1 Seniors and Legends Classes
In addition to the regular puppy and adult classes held at the National Meet, the host club is encouraged to have the special classes of Seniors and Legends. The criteria for eligibility to run in either of these classes is that the dog has, or will have attained the age limitation as follows: If the national is held prior to June 30th that the dog will have turned either 9 or 11 prior to June 30th of that year. If the national is held after July 1st, that the dog will have turned either 9 or 11 prior to December 31st of that year.
1) Seniors will be for dogs that either are 9 years of age or who will turn 9 years of age within a maximum of 6 months after the date of the national.
2) Legends will be for dogs that either are 11 years of age or who will turn 11 years of age within a maximum of 6 months after the date of the national.
Legends and Seniors classes must run at least 100 yards, but can run any distance from 100 to 200 yards at the owners discretion. All owners must agree on any variance of distance.
Legends and Seniors may be hand slipped in deference to their age, IF all owners agree.
These classes will run once. Entrants in these classes will NOT count toward the number of adult starters, for the purpose of awarding Championship and National Points.
It is not necessary to measure dogs running only in Legends or Seniors.

The fun match will be held on the Friday prior to racing. Mitzi Banks will be our judge.

For those of you who don't know Mitzi, her introduction:

"My journey with Whippets, began 28 years ago after meeting Iva Kimmelman (Merci Isle). During this period I have been blessed with Bench champions, Group winners, Coursing champions (inc LCM and FC), two appearances at Westminster, one with Hunter, the first CRX to be shown there. I enjoyed campaigning across the USA with Les, and the No 1 AKC lure coursing champ (1996-Raisin). The move to racing came after introductions to Don and Sally Papin (Windyglen) by Jean Balint. Topanga arrived 2 years later followed by his mother IOS, who produced some great racers with Waylon.
I am honored to have been asked to judge this years National. "

The catalog will be created by the esteemed Lisa Ochoa. Penny Bolt and Joanne Stewart will be the Race Secretaries. Just hit the "volunteer" tab above if you have other talents that you would like to lend to the meet. Don't be shy, 'kay?
